Before tearing things apart you might want to try just adding stop leak.
Bars Leak makes stop leak "tabs" that I install behind the freeze plugs of
every motor I build.
While I was working as the engine tech at a GM dealer years ago they sent
out a bulletin that advised adding a couple of "GM stop leak tabs" ANY time
there was any kind of cooling system repair. GM adds it at the factory.
I have seen this stuff stop seepage from water pump seals for YEARS!!
CAN'T hurt,,,, can only HELP. Cheap fix if it works.
But HEY,,, that's just ME!!
