I Have come to the conclusion that I probably won't install the 343 in a
Rebel.
I am not done with my 83 cj-8,(building a mild 360 for it) the 79 AMX is
staring at me, The 79 Concord electric car awaits finishing touches, 96
Grand cherokee says play with me, just like new,, our 30 ft offshore has
not hit the water yet,,wife saying you have to down size.
So I need input as to what this new motor is worth, have all dyno records,
tapes on the pull, it is mean.

No silicone will work on lights. Well it will but it seals them so well what
moisture sneaks in through the socket stays in there. They corrode. Then you
are 99% sure to break the lens! I used clear on my marker lights and broke
them when the lamps failed.
I found some good gaskets when I re did mine. They may be re popped now
to. Or I would get foam tape and carefully make my own. Leaving that tiny
little Moisture weap hole open. Maybe you could just drill an 1/8" hole in
the housing somewhere hidden to. Vent them.

I finally got the instrument panel put back together on the 65 Rambler last
weekend and am trying to fight through the owner's remorse and just finish
the car and drive it.
I put the battery in tonight and only the right tail light works. I had
cleaned the sockets and installed new bulbs before I re-installed the
fixtures but the left socket is dead. Juice is getting to the connector so
it looks like I'll need a replacement socket. Anyone parting out a 64 or 65
American. I had sealed the lens to the socket with blue RTV and it was tight
enough that I broke the lens too. Should used clear silly cone I guess.
Bummer.
The engine cranked over with the ignition switch for the first time tonight.
I didn't start it, but it was good to see it crank. I had always used my
remote starter switch when I was putting things together back under the
hood.
The headlights don't work, but I suspect the dimmer switch is bad. The car
was very damp inside while in storage and had surface rust on the dash and
plenty of corroded connections. I already replaced the headlight switch
because the old one had green corrosion on all the contacts and would have
been a bear to clean.
Tomorrow I will check out the dimmer switch and wiring. I found out the
headlight sockets were too brittle to use tonight too. My sharp pointed
circuit tester makes a good finger prick. I have quit asking what else can
go bad, because I think I know the answer. I ordered replacement sockets
online from some discount place in Chicago (not JCW) and they are supposed
to be OEM Borg Warner parts. NAPA doesn't list them.
