If you are going to retrofit with 134A I would investigate getting a "modern" replacement designed for it. It will cool better with unit designed for 134a. Unless it is damaged or rotten, there is no need to replace it. Flush it and have it checked. Replace the dryer and hoses and you "should" be good to go. YMMV!
