If you are going to retrofit with 134A I would investigate getting a "modern" replacement designed for it.
It will cool better with unit designed for 134a.

Unless it is damaged or rotten, there is no need to replace it.
Flush it and have it checked.
Replace the dryer and hoses and you "should" be good to go.

Anyone have a lead on a/c condenser for the 82 Concord wagon.  While the motor is out we want to replace it.  Thought I would check here first...
