" From: Frank Swygert <farna@xxxxxxx> " " [] " You could cut the harness connector off the column and splice in if " desired -- maybe use individual bullet connectors (I think the Rambler " wires have bullet ends on them...). i'm pretty sure it's bullets; they used them for just about everything. i'd prefer to not cut either connector but make a short bullet-ended cable to go between them. " AMC used a standard Saginaw gearbox. I'm not sure if a Vega box will " fit, but an intermediate box (Camaro, Chevelle, maybe Nova) afaik it's vega or everything else i think the vega is 'normal' too; that'd explain why its ps gear - which isn't like other gms - has the old manual gear pattern. " should fit. GM changed the mounting pattern in the 70s, '75 +/- later have the ps pattern " so you need a 60s box to bolt on without changes. I put a 1980s GM " power steering box on my car before I cobbled the R&P on there now. " I think it was the very bottom hole that lined up, I drilled holes " for the other bolts. Just use a large washer on the outside of the " rail -- a plate would be better. this is what the amc plate was for, and saginaw never changed the ps gear pattern, barring dropping from 4 to 3 lugs on some [all?] later boxes. i've heard some vendor was duplicating the plate. i've also heard that the vega gear and the amc ps adapter are both popular with rodders for adding ps to old cars like '55 chevies. ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com
