[AMC-list] Question on front shocks

I was going through a bunch of parts I got from a friend of mine and found a pair of front shocks.  They are Armstrong, were these used new on AMC's?  They have never been on a vehicle and the one has a part number on a tag.  I've never heard of Armstrong.
