Either your starter solenoid and ceramic block are cross wired, make sure that you follow the wiring diagram as shown in your TSM...  I used to have that same problem with my 1970 Rebel 6 cyl.

Okay, got the Rambler running again. Was all nice and happy and ready
to take a test drive. I figured I'd shut it off first and restart it.
The car kept running when I turned the ignition key off. Kept running
after I removed the key. I pulled the wire between the coil and the
distributor to shut it off - and disconnected the battery. Not sure
what is hacked.

I did replace the coil and Pertronix before this happened. That's what
got the car running again. What would cause it to keep running, even
with the key off (or out?)
