Re: [AMC-list] Need exhaust manifold for 58 American

Take it to an exhaust shop and have it duplicated. They need a length of 1-7/8" pipe. I bet yours cracked at the rear exhaust port, that's the common area. They crack mostly because people leave the brace that goes from the bell housing to the pipe off. It's just a piece of 1/2" wide 1/8" thick bar bolted to one of the bell to engine bolts drilled for a u-bolt around the pipe. It supports the end of the pipe and keeps it from cracking at that weak point. You should also use a hanger right where the floor meets the firewall (the toe board) as well. There are no gaskets, just make sure the block is real clean.

It is not really a manifold, just a round pipe, one end blocked off, with
holes cut into the side and clamped to the block for the flathead 196.

Anybody know where I can get one? or should I take the one off that is
there and get one made at an exhaust shop? Are there any gaskets that go
between the engine and this pipe?
