Without seeing it, I'd guess strut rod bushings. At 42 years old, it is unlikely they are any good, unless you know they were replaced in the last decade or so. If it's a weekend-only car, you could get away with just new bushings (fairly easy and cheap) but if the front end is that old, it almost certainly needs a full teardown. It'll be a bear of a job your first time, though it's in fact not that terrible, it'll just be high-torque stuck bolts, a few odd tools (some you can make from plumbing store parts) and some odd components. Depends on how compfortable you are with that sortof work. Though this is 63, yours is the same only some parts are easier to get!
