so, i had to get a new upper radiator hose. my original one finally was trying real hard to give up the ghost. HATE them stupid flex hoses. figured thats what i would have to get. my buddies at the parts store looked it up on the computer, and said they would have to order it. i thought that was strange. no flex hose the right length... so i figured it was just the radiator size and the t-stat neck sizes they didnt have. so, today, picked it up, and BLOW ME AWAY BETTY!!!! it was a preformed hose that looked right. it fits almost perfectly also. has to bend just a little bit more than the form, but wow, i havent found a preformed upper hose for the ohv 196 before so i was justtrying to get all i could outta the original. part number is
GATES 20348now, tomorrow, i find out if they got lower formed hose. this is for the '62 classic. as far as i know and have seen, all the 196 ohv
cast iron motors have the same tstat and my classic and american both have the same radiator. the american would just be a little closer. but, that problem could be solved i think. the hose is the size of the radiator inlet. it expands for the tstat. so i THINK it could just be trimmed down where needed after it bends to point to the radiator. i need to look and measure the hose and see how long it is strait, and how far i am from the radiator and front of motor. and maybe tom j can give measurments of his, and then wewill know if it would work for the americans also. _______________________________________________
