Having grown up in the Great White North (I bounced around a lot between Alaska, BC's southern border and Alberta) I discovered a oil heater that you stick into the motor oil. Wish I'd had it with me when I drove my '72 Datsun 510 to Calgary in Feb '94. It had 50W motor oil and a leaking headgasket (took out the thermostat and it ran fine the whole way, but barely kept us warm in the blizzard) 2 minutes after I shut it off, it froze up and I had to wait a week for a thaw to pass through. At minus 10, a taxi was able to get me push started and I didn't shut it off again till I got back to BC! It was so cold that I took a shower and washed my hair, then went downstairs to grab the mail (right outside the door) I didn't have a towel and my hair freeze dried in less than 10 seconds! Last I checked it had dropped to 40 below. It will warm faster once it hits the warm parts of the engine. At 30 below and having been plugged in, my Eagle starts fine but still takes too long for the oil light to go out.
