[Amc-list] 1968 Javelin - Amc/Dana mod. 20 rear end QUESTION

I agree with everything Andrew says except the part about all hubs are the
same. Well in fact they are the same as far as fitting onto the splined end
of the axle shaft. But some Jeeps, if not all of them have a different lug
bolt pattern than the AMC cars.
I have a Jeep AMC 20 axle here that has a 4-3/4 or 5 inch lug pattern with
five lug studs on the hub. To the best of my knowledge all AMC cars used a
4-1/2 inch spaced five lug pattern. I suppose one could have a Jeep hub
redrilled and the newly drilled lug stud holes splined for the 4-1/2 inch
pattern. Not sure how much that would cost................
Might be cheaper to just buy a set of one piece axles from one of the rear
end specialists.
I dunno............

As far as differentials are concerned IIRC the 2.72 ratio gearset used a
different carrier than the 2.87 to 3.08 (I think) and the higher numerically
numbered carriers used a different unit than the 2.87 to 3.08. Same goes for
the twin grip or track loc carriers.
The key is easily purchased for a little bit of money at any Mopar dealer
under a Jeep part number. I believe you must purchase more than one at a
time.
