There are 2 different AMC Gen 2+ bell adapters to GM TH400s. One uses the nailhead pattern and the other uses the later BOP pattern (only used in '74 AFAIK) There is only TH200R4 with the BOP pattern (I may have an O/D Landrover trans with the nailhead pattern to play with soon. A buddy is looking at a diesel Nissan swap in it since the ex-Buick aluminum 4.0L has a rod out the side and the Nissan motor already has a 727/NP208 setup) The flexplate on my 304 that was in my '73 J4000 (Nailhead TH400) has a crank spacer that pushes the flexplate back and uses the same Ford style starter used till '87. Don't recall the tooth count, but same as the AMC only TH400, except the offset is built right into the later flexplate. My buddy Brian (BMax) is getting the old nailhead TH400/QT setup from the J4000 on friday (it's currently sitting in my '77 J10 shortbox, still attached to the 304) He's going to use it on his Nash 327 which is going into his '63 Scout with '79 Wagoneer axles. Later this summer the 345/5 speed (Clark I think) and over/under Brownie box from my '71 IH 1800 Loadstar will be going into his '68 Travelall to replace the BG241 6 cyl/4speed. (it has an adapter ring to fit the 3 speed bell to the 4 speed trans) Motor runs fine, but the clutch on the inline 6 is waaaay too small for that size of rig (IIRC, it's only 9") The tcase is remote mount without low range 200 series (I was told 202, but it has no low range, like the 200 in M715s) I'll have the '77 J10 shortbox up and running (it'll be sweet with the stepside box) with 727/NP208 behind the 304. The '83 J10 longbox will be ready to sell in the next couple months as well. 4.2L/AW4/NP208 with otherwise stock suspension and axles. (I have the fuel injection setup as well but no time to install it) The mind wanders (haven't slept much in 3 days with the 4th looking the same way) and it's too small to be out on it's own. The point I was trying to get to is I'll have the Gen 2 (or is that Gen 3?) adapter ring off and ready to sell in the next week or so (possibly friday unless we run out of time or someone gets hurt again or the snow is STILL too deep to drive out the 4x4!) From: adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Sandwich Maker) Subject: Re: [Amc-list] AMC Ultra Bell questions for GM tranny applications To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: " From: Greg Taylor " " Hey guys, " In light of the discussion over at IFSJA.org about the " possibility of getting the AMC Ultra bell manufactured for mating " a Dodge 518 (47RH) OD tranny up to an AMC, I began looking at the " currently available Ultra Bells for AMCs. There is one available " for the Powerglide and one available for the TH400/TH350. These " are reasonably priced at $280 from JW. " " What I am wondering is if the TH400/TH350 bell could be used on a " 700R4 or 4L60/4L80 tranny also? IF it could, then it would be " cheaper to adapt those, than to use the Adv. Adapter or Novak " adapter for GM tranny to AMC engine. it should work for the 4L80, which is th400-based; dunno about the 700r4. also, advance adapters has a block ring with amc and gm patterns on it, intended to allow gm th400s to replace amc ones - but you can use it for any gm tranny; i've heard of at least one gm bell and stick done this way, and there's a fellow on the strokers list with a 4.0 stroker in a pacer backed with a 700r4 and this ring. " My only thought, is that JW doesn't list a flexplate for the " AMCs, to use with their Ultra Bell - would we just use the Jeep " TH400 flexplate and call it a day? that's the way i'd make it if i were them. the aa ring needs a thicker flexplate b/c it unavoidably adds some length to the stack. ________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live™ Hotmail®…more than just e-mail. http://windowslive.com/howitworks?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_t2_hm_justgotbetter_howitworks_012009 _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
