I actually found it on craigslist in Springfield Mass. Guy was asking 800 for it but said it had a small rust hole in quarter and engine had a rod knock. When I went to look at it I found the rear lower quarter was gone, inner rockers rotted, rear floor rotted on pas side. Rear valance rotted, top of fender rotted, So I offered the guy 200 as it seemed like just a parts car with the engine blown. When I came back with the trailer he had it out and running, could hear the noise in the engine. Got it home and put in the other 3 quarts of oil. Guy must have thought it was a 2 quart system? Noise was a lifter, not a rod. SO I registered and insured it. Insurance min was 3500 and only cost me 20.00 to add to my Hagarty policy. Car drove great. I eventually had to put on a muffler. 13.00 for a thrush. On my way to a show and a guy turned at an intersection into my lane. 3200 worth of damage. Dan, Did I tell ya about the 74 AMX I bought for 25.00 and sold for 750 the same week Or the 3 gremlins I bought for 750 and sold the first one for 650 and the 2nd for 450 and have yet to pick up the 3rd? This is the only way I support my hobby. I did years of trading, buying, and selling to build my gremlin. Unfortunatly not every deal is a good one on my end. I have been hosed too. Like the time I bought a 70 390 for 500. I know, good deal right? Well, it had 304 heads, and I had to drill out /break the pistons to get the rods and crank out. The lifters soaked for 6 months in penetrant and still were stuck solid. My bad for not looking it over before I bought it but it was an internet deal. I still think the best deal I ever got was a complete 69 390 short block with about 5K miles for 50.00 from a local. I put in lots of time to find the deals. Other guys use this time to work on their cars. It is like a 2nd job for me so I CAN work on my cars.
