" I guess perhaps the classic got a wider rim? i think they did, but my american rims were only 4.5"! in my '68 tsm the rims are all 5" or 5.5" except for 6-cyl americans. stock wheels got to be 6" only in the '70s, and 6" hornet rims needed only a 1/8" spacer to clear the knuckle and i've run 205/70s on them without incident, even turning into my slanted driveway. i've also run 185/75s, which are about the smallest you can put on a 6". the spacer didn't require longer studs. imho 5" is a little narrow for 195/75 radials, but 5.5" would be fine.
