Renault had some tools for this.
I took a pair and rethreaded them to work with the six.
They are about 3/4" long pins. you thread them into the headbolt holes in the block.
Once you have the gasket and head in place you start the remaining bolts.
You then take a long threaded T-handle tipped with left hand threads and thread it down into the pins and pull them out up thru the head. Then you can install the last two bolts and torque as usual.

   I have to look in the box of tools I bought as I think there is actually a set ot the renault tools in the box.
I also need to see if I still have the set I made 20 years ago...

The nice thing about the pins is they are short and easy to get the head sat down on. Long studs can be a pain to get the head to slide down with out binding.  The 196 probably could benefit from a set of heads studs, maybe.
