If the chrysler trans you have is from the ambo it is a chrysler design but carries a different motor bolt pattern for the AMC engine. Chrysler internals fit as do converters, excpet the Chrysler conv has a ring on it for the starter. You can remove the ring, but it is harmless and clears the bellhousing. Don't try to use the Chrysler 360 converter as it has a weight on it and will cause an imbalance. Sounds like you have a good combo in the works. I hope your not parting out a good 401 Ambo for the engine. They deserve some respect in their own right as they are fairly scarce! When You get to the rear axle, easiest true demension unit I have found is from a 90-92 Ford Ranger with a 4.0L. These came with an 8.8" and had a matching wheel bolt surface to wheel bolt surface 56.5". You need to install spring perches to match the Americans springs. But finding the correct width is 2/3's the battle! Best part is you can find them in Gear ratios of, 3:27, 3:55, 3:73 and even a 4:11 if your real lucky! With a 401 in a street car I'd look for the 3:27 or 3:55 as you'r egoing to have enough torque to melt some serious rubber!!! If you send pics to the list they will get scrubbed, but a link to the pics is sent through at the bottom of the email. Anyone who wants to see the pics can click the link. That saves sending all that bandwidth to those who still live in the dark ages of dial up.... Since i have a 69 I'd love to see any pics you'd care to share send them my way! -- Mark Price Morgantown, WV 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.7L, Quadratrac II " I realize that death is inevitable.
