I meant to add.

Rumour has it that on the 63 blocks some 287's don't have a bore size on them.
Supposedly those blocks were used for the first run of 287's and they are of a very thick bore casting.
What supposedly happened is that they used the thick bore 327 block machined to the small bore 287.

I can only guess that to avoid confusion they ground off the bore size or did not cast it at all on those blocks.

Near as I can recollect someone on here told the story that their dad had built a standard bore 327 using one of these blocks as the basis for it because it could be bored out to 4"s safely.

I've never seen one, sure would save it if I did.
To check out the story if for no other reason.
