Re: [Amc-list] Adding air conditioning to '69 Javelin

There is a company called CCSAutoparts in Anaheim California, that can make
you a new condenser to fit your Javelin. I'm not sure about
interchangeability between years of Javelins, it sounds feasible with the
condenser but the rest of it may not be so interchangeable. I think 68 to 70
under dash stuff is but I'm still not 100% sure. Definitely the 71 to 74
stuff won't work without modification of some kind. the 68 to 70 A/C heater
control panel is the same but very expensive to buy if you can find it. I
saw one go on evilbay a few months ago for over $400. That was just the
panel with levers and switches, no push pull cables for actuating doors
inside the underdash unit.
You can use an original style York compressor but they hog power and fuel
and vibrate. Better to adapt to a Sanden style compressor. Don't reuse old
hoses they will leak coolant. Most of the stuff will convert to the new R134
refrigerant. Use and or convert to "o" ring connections where ever possible,
they leak much less.
Expect to spend a potfull of money on putting A/C into that 69 Javelin. So
far I'm estimating it to cost me roughly $1000 or more.

Best bet for A/C if you don't care about factory looks, is probably going to
be vintage air or some other aftermarket set up. These kinda fit under the
dash and allow use of the old heater box to stay.

Can't think of anything else right now, although I know there is more.

Good luck,

Armand

rebuilding I'm thinking of adding some options not originally on the car
like disc brakes and air conditioning. Has anyone had any similar
experience? See a couple of pictures here. I'll be adding more later.
