You have my sympathy too. And also I think the guy you bought the stuff from screwed up pretty badly when he shipped it, but I might have considered splitting the cost of the screw up 50/50 with him just to keep the peace. Remember I said might have...... I take responsibility for my own screw ups, and expect others to do the same, but I also realize that some people just don't have the mental capacity to accept their own screw ups and bit the bullet to git er done., no matter what it takes. Anyway, You guys gotta stop scaring us poor innocent UPS shippers who haven't had much problem with them. I still ship UPS just because there are so many drop off points in town, and I've had more experience with their web site. I'm not the happiest with their service, they dented two out of three radiators I purchased. One of them was the aluminum rad I bought for the Javelin. It was just a slight ding on the end of the upper hose tube. The other one was damaged beyond use, it was squashed at the filler neck and I couldn't get the cap on. I had to return it and the supplier sent a new rad out that survived the trip. I heard bad stories about the UPS depot in Sioux Falls, SD. It's located at the airport for air freight reasons. The story goes that there are several conveyors inside the building that move packages around automatically. These conveyors are quite a distance above the floor in spots and occasionally a package tumbles to the floor receiving severe damage. It's a great story, just don't have any real back up to confirm it. Other than of course I've received some packages pretty beat up and seen some that looked like they fell at least 10 feet. It seems that lately most of the packages have been heading toward the ST. Paul/Minneapolis area to get to the next hop down the line. I shipped a 115 or 120 pound package through FEDEX once. It was a 4 popper engine block and crank. I made a 1 x 4 pallet and side box for it, then covered it in cardboard. It arrived OK. Anyway I received positive feedback on it. It took awhile because they sent it slow boat from China and it passed through every depot in the Western half of the country. Not sure UPS would even consider it. God this is some boring crap I'm writing isn't it??? I really wish I could tell you guys that I just got done purchasing a complete aluminum AMC 401 crate engine that is rated at 100% duty cycle at 7500 rpm and will produce 600 horsepower at the rear wheels of the new 2010 Javelin that my team scratch built to look very similar to the Javelin that the artist drew for the infamous April Fools issue of Hot Rod. I wish I could tell you that the new Pierre Cardin all leather upholstery interior has arrived from the specialty shop, and we are looking forward to installing it. Oh and the one off special all four corner independent suspension has been road tested and proven on the skid pad to allow the new 2010 Javelin to produce 1.8g cornering forces while giving the smooth comfortable ride of Grandpa's Ambassador. And that the one off, no other like it, wheels made just for this car have been proven to be stronger than any other wheel ever made but still lighter than any other wheel in it's category. The new ram air hood looks somewhat like the vintage 1970 ram air hood but through wind tunnel testing and development our engineers estimate it will add an additional 5% more horsepower at speeds above 100 mph. And that the engineers have estimated by the light weight of the car and the horsepower figures at the rear wheels that this car will compare with the best that Europe has to offer in the line of Super Cars but will cost one fourth as much. I know just dreams, but much better reading isn't it??? I guess it wouldn't be a new toy from Hades either but maybe a new toy from Heaven?? What do you think??? I have had problems with UPS shipments in the past. One time it was a large AMC part specially packed in a wooden box by a respected vendor in Kenosha. NOS parts. Neither he nor I were aware of the UPS policy towards wooden boxes....don't use them. Their conveyor system has large drop points in it that will destroy a wooden box. I got one fragment of what he sent wrapped in plastic. > > Week before last I shipped a set of AMC disk brakes to a buyer in WV via Greyhound. It was 98 pounds, almost exceeding the Greyhound weight limit of 100 pounds. The package did not get there until today. To quote Greyhound: They needed a special type of bus on the route. Anyway it made it. To their credit Greyhound has never lost a package forever, although a couple of shipments have disappeared until a tracer was put on them. One AMX door I shipped to Mississippi was found in Dallas, TX. > > Joe Fulton > > > > --- On Thu, 12/4/08, Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx <Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > > From: Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx <Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx> > > Subject: [Amc-list] semi OT: new toy from Hades > > To: "Strokers" <strokers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, "AMC-DelMarVA: yahoogroups.com" <AMC-DelMarVA@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, "AMC List" <amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx> > > Date: Thursday, December 4, 2008, 3:46 PM > > Or, how the UPS facility ate my neat toys... > > Semi off topic cause it is for my Stroker and other > > assortec AMC Jeeps stuff. > > I emailed OOPS about the lack of any new info on my Piston > > pin jig and misc tools. > > No reply, I called, Got some neat info.
