I'm with Mark! You could always use a bit of that flex or bendable pipe to make your own over the axle tail pipe. It's not like the loss of flow from the corrugations in the pipe are going to affect the 196 much -- you still have a lot bigger tail pipe than the original! That Dynomax Super Turbo is built like a FlowMaster -- internal baffles only. I had one, replaced it with a generic turbo muffler, which has a fiberglass packing around it. Much quieter, probably about the same as Mark's combo. The Summit turbo muffler should be equivalent to what I have -- internal baffles are drilled or slotted (probably punched) tubes with a couple baffles holding them in place, with a thin 'glass wrapping inside the case. For about $20-$25 (for the muffler) you might get your couple decibels quieter Mark! ------------- Date: Sun, 16 Nov 2008 17:29:37 +0000 From: Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx welcome to the world of reality. You expect the joys of youth You experience the now Just have them take the pipe over the axle and out when funds allow. Keep the muffler up forward if you move it rearward as in the 64-69's the noise will still be loud. Been there, done that. My american runs 2.5" pipe, too big allows the noise to flow along it's length, IMHO. Then a Glass pack with about 2-2 1/4 core to a Dynomx 2 1/2" superturbo. With out the glass pack up front it is too loud. With two glasspacks it is too loud. With just the superturbo at the rear it would be too loud. Perhaps it would work if the turbo was in front of the axle were yours is? I have no idea, I was poor then and built the exhaust myself, after the third redo I surrendered. I'd love a few less decibels. It's OK now, sounds good, but one or two less decibels would be the sweet spot IMHOO.
