[Amc-list] Felt Window Channel

For what it's worth, while doing the resto on my Typhoon, I struggled with this issue, too. However, being a certified Pack Rat, I have some scrap speaker cabinet material used by Peavey. When covered speakers are shipped to stores, quite often some of the packaging is scrap speaker covering made of a VERY heavy felt-like material. I used to collect the stuff, gathered from cartons we received at our store. It looked like it was in good enough condition to cover various items I've built for one reason or another, so I salvaged it from going to the dumpster. Some of those pieces were pretty good size, too, including some that were fairly long, up to some 48 inches.

Thunderstruck by what I found, searching for something totally different, I thought about the channels. By cutting strips, using contact cement, I was able to re-line the channels with this felt. In the beginning, it's REALLY tight. But, after letting it adjust to the thickness of the glass, and hand-helping the window up and down a few times, it became a very snug fitting replacement for the felt originally lining the track. I also used it for that piece at the rear of the door that guides that part of the window.

So, try visiting a local Peavy store, and see if they have any of that material laying around. They might just give it to you. It's trash, anyway, so why not?
