Yeah, little 3.125" (3-1/8") bores! Beer can (well, my koozie here) is about 2-3/4". But the 172 wouldn't be any smaller -- it would be the same! The old L-heads (172.6, 184, 195.6) all had the same 3.125" bore with a different stroke (crank and rods). -------------- Date: Fri, 24 Oct 2008 11:18:22 -0700 From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> This won't be news to Joe or Bruce G... Remember I said the 195.6ohv has "beer can sized cylinders"? Did you think I was exaggerating? Gander this: http://wps.com/temp/beercancyl.JPG Note that the piston with the can in it is not at BDC (see the one to it's right, not at TDC). I didn't want to turn the motor seeing how it's been sitting for 30 years... but you can see that at BDC about 1/4" of the beer can would be above the deck! If this was a 172, I think the beer can might actually be the cylinder's diameter! -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
