Tom, I was just thinking.... if you try to shift that thing too quickly it will go into gear with a mild crunch. The synchro hasn't quite got the gears all meshed just yet and... If it just crunched right into gear that's probably all it was, of the clutch wasn't quite fully disengaged -- that will cause the same problem. Sticking clutch, not pushed in quite enough (another 1/8" would have done it...), etc. It's easy to make that thing crunch just a little, I drove one for years! An occasional crunch into gear is common for that type trans, I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes more common. Otherwise it's just one of those times your mind was on something else (while driving? you, think of some other mental/mechanical problem while behind the wheel? tell me it ain't so!!! ;> ) and you either pulled hte shifter back a little faster/harder than you typically do or you didn't have the clutch in quite as far as you normally do. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
