I completely understand your pain! Just don't go blaming it entirely on the T-96 design. It lasted fine for years. Yes, it's been far surpassed over the years design wise. The biggest part of the problem is it has a lot of miles on it and/or it's just plain old. Metal fatigues even when not under hard (or much) use with age. These things are just old and hard to deal with now, especially when mixing parts from one or two trannys, new and old. I know, that also is unavoidable as many parts are simply unobtainable, but has nothing to do with the design. I'm sure a brand spanking new one would perform just fine for it's intended purpose. For a daily driver, however, you're better off with something newer. Maybe you should get that early Falcon adapter and consider a real five speed... ----------------- Date: Wed, 22 Oct 2008 22:57:25 -0700 From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> Un-f***-belivable... off the freeway, on Riverside, I make an ordinary 2 - 3 upshift and >>CRUNCH<<. Crap, sounds like the same problem as before! I know double-well-good I assembled it correctly, checked all clearances, and seated the snapring on the clutch shaft. If it has indeed failed again, it'll approach unshiftable. If so, it's gotta be something external. Stumped. Maybe the crunch was a one time fluke, but I really doubt it. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
