The only thing to consider is the rate oil drains back from the head. The oil pump could put more in the head than will drain back at a sufficient rate, which would reduce the amount in the pan (all AMCs have that problem already -- at least the push rod oiled sixes and V-8s do) and could cause leaking if the level rises to the edge of the valve cover. That seal isn't made to be immersed in oil, neither is the oil pan gasket, both keep splash and mist in only. I would think hot oil would drain back fast enough, but depends on how fast it's pumped up. I wouldn't think that single line could pump as much up to the head as 12 hollow pushrods would though. In the original design half the oil was being dumped right back into the pan. Hmmm... leave the T in, just run the through line to the other side of the pan rail with no filter in between. But then I wonder if too much will flow through and not enough to the rockers -- the filter creates a bit of restriction. ----------------- Date: Sat, 18 Oct 2008 13:09:03 -0700 From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> Frank Swygert wrote: > > You're forgetting that in 63 AMC did just that! In THIS motor, what is the downside to that I wonder? The rockers can't care. Might even help cooling. It's not like it's stealing oil from anywhere; it'll be the same amount of oil out of the pump up that skinny line. So what ARE the downsides to too much oil in the head? -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
