Even if you decide to go wireless at some point, the cable upgrades can help you. The further you go away from a wireless access point or wireless router, the weaker your signal and the lower your speed. My oldest son's R51 Thinkpad works fine upstairs. My two younger kids have Thinkpad R60's. The R60's do not work well at all as you go away from the wireless router. The have a cheaper wireless card in them, and can not handle distances. My wife's Dell works okay upstairs. So - if you have a large house, you could have your switch in a central location connected to your router - then you could connect wireless access points via the cable you're running. One downstairs, one upstairs. If your house is big, a couple in key locations. Heck - you could put a WAP in your garage! They're not cheap, but if you use a laptop it certainly helps keep you connected no matter where you are in your house. Then you could check out the AMC e-mail list from your garage! (there, I got back on subject) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
