Definitely too big! They are roughly the same size as the 232/258.
Oh, that's the 240/300!! The 240 came out in 64 and was last used in cars in 68. The 300 was always a truck motor only, 64-96. The 300 was the "4.9L" from 83-96.
144/170/200/250 share basically the same block externally, only the 250 has a taller deck for a longer stroke -- sort of what AMC did to make the 232/258 in place of the 199/232. All the small (144-170) Ford sixes have the same 3.5" bore, just different strokes (from 2.5"-2.94"). The 200 and 250 share a 3.68" bore but use 3.13" and 3.91" strokes. (http://falconperformance.sundog.net/facts.asp), 200 has same deck height as smaller ones, 250 has a taller deck.

IIRC, Frank already measured the 250-300 out and they are too long.
