Greetings, Frank... The Fuel Pump Pressure come up 'On the Money'. My brother in law thought there might be plug somewhere in the system or return, but that seems kind of 'out' since the pressures do what they are intended: 44 or so pounds at curb-idle dropping to, then maintaining 30PSI after 5 minutes. So it appears the Fuel System is out of consideration. TPS also is 'doing it's thing'. Input voltage is just under 5 volts and idle (ie, throttle 'closed') is 'at the book numbers' (between .5 and 1.0 volts). When 'open', the TPS 'return voltages' are also 'on the money', in this case, as the throttle opens, it gradually 'walks' to near the input voltage. So the TPS 'is working' according to plan. So far, over and over, everything is pointing to a 'stupid' brain here. Seems ECM/PCM is doing a 'Whatever!' with it's sensor's data...ie, it doesn't 'care' what it's told, it just 'does' what it does...which appears to be what it 'aint spozed to' do... Oh, how I miss the simplicity of pliers/screwdriver/hammer repairs on the Ol' Rambler...and it's kind of ironic; I drive 'Gracie' (my '67 American) to the parts places to 'fix' the 'reliable' new stuff! Sheeeeesh! Hey, by the way...does anyone have a mountable hitch for the '67 American so I can abuse her? If I had a Ball (hitch) on the back, I could run around collecting my missing cars (remember PlainJaneVanilla? Still waits for me. The Patrician (another manifestation of my mental illness 'C-it-wan-it', and the wagon in FortWorth. I'll start a new thread about this. Party On All, It's a Great Day! Jerijan, it sounds like it's not getting enough fuel. Check/replace the fuel filter first. After that I'd see if there is a fuel pressure regulator. 96 may have the regulator in the tank with the fuel pump. If there's a return line there's a regulator with a vac hose attached just before the return line. Disconnect the vac hose (plug it) and see if that helps. If it does it's the regulator that's bad. Otherwise check the fuel pressure. There should be a shraeder valve (tire type valve) somewhere on one of the rails. It should have 35-45 psi all the time -- I don't know what specific pressure that one needs, you might be able to google that. If pressure is low the fuel pump is the problem. The TPS can cause the same problem. If it's not giving the correct voltage range it's not telling the computer to give the engine more fuel. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date.
