I have some info here: http://wps.com/AMC/1963-Rambler-Classic-550-Cross-Country/AC/index.html I ended up getting most of my stuff from ACsource.com. People actually answered the phone! I got my VintageAir under dash unit from somewhere else though. > 1. What cleaner or solvent should be used? Would CRC Brake Clean work? There's a special AC system cleaner, comes in an aerosol can. I have two cans but haven't used it yet! On the Classic I abandoned all the old factory crap (it was bad) and went all new. On the 70 Hornet, which I simply need to crimp the hoses, install the new compressor I ahve, flush and charge! I will flush the evap unit (dash unit). You're supposed to use compressed air to blow out the cleaner, but most air tanks are dirty and wet. Not sure what I'm gonna do here (you go first :-) > 2. Man, unless you're doing a restoration, I'd pitch the old factory condenser and buy a new one. The new ones are vastly superior, though not that cheap (udner $200?). Especially if you're switching to h134a. The condenser is the key to cold air! That introduces aother problem -- new stuff is all O-ring, old stuff is all flares. ACsource can sell you custom fittings that will solve the problem (eg. #8 flare on #10 hose for the evap to compressor return line). > 3. I'm not a restorer or purist; I use whatever is appropriate, long lasting and maintainable, so I'm the last one to ask here. Matt does a much better job of work like this. I'm a mercenary. AMC purist (eg. no brand C motors!!) but all of my cars are basically customs. _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
