[Amc-list] Adding up the receipts, ouch!

The previous owner of a certain 94 ford kept all receipts, and one night I added them all up.
They spent almost 8000 in repairs and regular service at the dealer over 13 years and 80K miles.  Includes oil changes, a couple of radiators, alternators, fluid flushes, brakes, etc.
That's probably half again the original purchase price.

Do it yourself makes the difference.
The question is, on which car can you, or will you, do it yourself?  
Knowing how much you're saving, will you splurge on what is necessary for your classic?
Knowing how much you are losing, will you skimp on what is necessary for your newer car?
And don't undervalue the fun factor.

Also, I just got a new job with full benefits that I attribute significantly to my Rambler long ago having forced me to learn how to read the manual and fix things myself.  These skills are rare and transferable.
