I think you may have seen a Sanden mounted where the air pump used to be as you mentioned. I looked on ebay and did a web search for Sanden compressors and found all sorts of them, and some of them will mount directly to the old York mount as Mark talked about. The reason this is so easy is because Ford and Chrysler used the same York compressor that AMC used, they just used a different bracket to mount it to their engines. I think a Sanden has a lower profile than the York so ends up looking much better in the high upper passenger side area. The drivers down low could be an air pump, the driver's up high has always been the power steering pump location. Some one please jump on this if I'm wrong. Oh yeah, one last thing, I found information regarding cheaper Chinese copies of Sanden compressors, some one on this list was talking about them last year. They are probably the compressors on ebay that are priced in the $120 or so range. The vibration of the York is a problem as well as the placement. It's a big unit mounted right up front on the pass side of the engine. The lack of vibration of the round compressors contributes to the longevity of the system by NOT producing leaks. > > Somehow I seem to remember the Sanden unit mounting low on the driver side, if not, I have no problems with mounting a round compressor where the York was. Can you get a Sanyo with a V-belt pulley. Does someone make an adapter to mount the Sanyo in the stock or other position? Maybe what I saw was a Sanden mounted where the air pump used to be. > > Thanks for the help. > > Don > _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
