It can be a royal PIA with the new Adhesives being strutural!
I'd not bother unless I had a buyer. or one of those vehicles that may need it.
So many people have good glass coverage on their insurance and reselling a used windshield can be a real crapshoot. Plus the fact of storage and an inexperienced remover often breaks the windshield getting it out!
   If it does work and it comes out in one piece and not damaged, tape the edges with a cloth tape to protect them. One chip and the windshield is basically toast as it will crack from that point at some time in the future, almost 100% of the time.
