Got the fuel pump in. Picked up some 5/16" steel lines this morning, two lines incase I messed 'em up. Bent the first one the wrong way, and trying to work the bend out of it, crimped it. Tried again, looked good all the way down to the fuel pump, but trying to put a compound bend in it to circle back to the outlet on the pump (hold on now, I'm coming to that) - messed up the line. Off for another set. Took out my trust bender wrench, started bending away - crimp. Okay, I got a spare. Crimp. Looked at my wrench. It had a setting for 3/16" and for 5/16" on the wheel. The wheel had turned, I hadn't tightened it down. Got a set off the dark green/blackish stuff that you can bend by hand. Messed up the first one. No biggy, took out the spare. Looked good from the carb to the back of the valve cover. Looked good going around the back of the valve cover. Looked good coming down. How the heck do you make that bend to get it in the fuel pump outlet? Took out the old pump. Looked closely at it. Noticed the fitting on the outlet. Slapped by forehead. One more time. I left a line at Napa so they could get a good chuckle at my flare job. Going for pre- cut, pre-flared. The guy behind the desk told me he fills his with sand, caps 'em with a dowel so they don't crimp. Then he blows then out before using. I'm not sure about that. Just the though of leaving any sand behind - and it getting in the gas or the oil is not a comforting thought. Oh well. Off to get the correct fitting. And another set of 5/16" brake line. I surely would not be able to make a living at this. _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
