The trend is now toward Injecting Liquid LPG rather than Injecting Gaseous LPG. Liquid Injection is claimed to bring the mileage difference between Gasoline & LPG down to roughly 10%.. Australia went from Natural Gas to LPG for their national transport fuels & FORD is producing dedicated vehicles for this market. The push stateside here to move to Natural Gas for Trucking & Government Fleet Vehicles [Pickens Plan] since we have a wealth of Natural Gas reserves and, I've seen my first TV ad for using LPG for car fueling this past week, has support with the Democrats & Indies. LPG is a by product of processing Natural Gas - so it would follow that if a mandate to convert Trucking to NG does come down from Washington, the refiners will support LPG for automobiles - maybe. Conversions to EFI cars would require new injectors , a fuel tank with specialized pressure valves at the tank for safety & a recycling style return lines set up with a stand alone LPG to H2O LPG inter cooler to keep it liquid. Then add a small computer to handle the System Purge, pumping LPG thru the circuit prior to start up - & a value tweak to the stock ECM & you're good to go. If the new incoming Administration offers incentives for converting to LPG / NG , and can twist the Gas Station Owners collective to provide LPG pumps next to the Gasoline as some stations do now - I'd wager this then is where we're headed for vehicle fueling - in the not too distant Future. As to Fuel Cells: The first functioning Fuel Cell that GE originally had a contract to market ran on Natural Gas. Within the first month after announcing it's success, Natural Gas prices jumped and haven't returned since, making the Natural Gas Fuel Cell not competitive against then prevailing Electrical Rates which is not the case today. The existence of NG powered Fuel Cells adds weight to the push to NG / Hybrid Electric transportation power. Looking ahead at the first crop of Hybrid GM / Chrysler vehicles that are in the pipes, they're using 1,000cc piston engines to drive the onboard Generators to resupply the Lithium Ion Batteries. NG can be used to power the motor - but - NG handling / fueling is not as easy as LPG nor are the Fuel Tanks as less demanding since NG requires crazy pressure levels - which is why Pickens did not push NG for other than Heavy Trucking & Fleet. Most Fleet run LPG anyway - Having viewed these last rounds of Debates, I see the Obama ticket taking Washington, unless of course we have rampant voting machine 'faults' - as DieBold designed them to be hacked under 1 minute without any trace of being hacked. Alternative Fuels will then receive the big push forward favoring NG / LPG. If McCain takes Washington,.... I hear Canada is nice along their Coastal region..
