Shoe box, bread box, cracker box... it's the 61-63 "boxy" American (compared to previous model). Heard it compared to an "artillery lorry" in a British or Australian magazine review from when it first came out. It's a so-ugly-its-cute, love or hate style. Ed Anderson worked wonders making the 58-60 look so different while changing only about 50% of the stamped panels, and none of the mechanicals! When I got my first one in 78 or 79 and went to a junkyard looking for parts, a guy said "what, one of those crackerbox Ramblers?". Friends and I though that was real funny... "crackers" riding around in a cracker box... fitting!! ----------- Date: Sat, 20 Sep 2008 12:31:01 -0400 From: "Jerijan" <jerijan@xxxxxxxxxxx> What is a 'shoe box Rambler'?? Perhaps it's a 'BreadBox Rambler' instead? What year? 61-63 is 'Breadbox'. I never knew of 'shoebox'. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
