In addition to Tom's tip of just having a shop press them apart.
Mark the hubs so you know what axle they came off of.
Mixing the hubs from side to side may cause the splines to fail.
The axle cuts the splines in a new hub, once installed on an axle the hub should stay with that axle.

I don't know that Rambler mentality will get your axles apart.
I can't say I've had a hub off an axle in many, many years.
Knock on wood...[hitting myself in the head]...

I actually had not thought of pulling the assembly then pressing it apart.
I wonder if I can do that in my 12 ton press?
