Went to U-Pull-It yesterday looking for the top 6" of a 258 or 4.0 exhaust (the last piece of my TBI/manifold swap; to fix the kludged tailpipe seal) and what's there? No Jeep or 258 products. But a 63 4-door AMerican wagon, absolutely NO, ZERO, rust, good paint, a swipe on the pass. rear door looks like the tow truck did it, and the front valance bent out backwards (tow truck again). Zero zero rust! Damn! Spare tire with matching rim in the trunk. Hardly even had door dings. It was striped to the shell, at least. No motor, seats there, no door panels handles, etc. Trans was there though and the rear end. It did have one curio left on -- the factory original exhaust system! It was one of those porcelain jobs. The end sticking out from the car looks like a twig a dog had been chewing on -- probably got backed into a million trees, curbs and rocks -- but it was all there. Except the muffler, laughably, someone has replaced the original, probably round, muffler with some huge thing, and it had like six reducers all welded into a rusty mass to get the 2" pipe down to the tailpip size. The factory tail pipe is like what Frank says, 1.5" OUTSIDE! diameter. A freakin' garden hose. It was a flathead. Automatic. Lessee... no displacement, no compression, no spark advance, soda straw for a carburetor, a piece of drill rod for a camshaft, kinked garden hose for a tailpipe. I wonder why they were hated and laughed at throughout the 1960's...! Front suspension was there but I only had a few tools, I may go back tomorrow and see if I can get it out. _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
