Although I agree with the Performer on a 360, it is questionable on a 401 as being my choice over the others out there. If I was looking for improved fuel economy and low end torque while still getting hp when I needed it on a basically stock 401, I would consider the Offy Dual Port (Dual Port not Dual Plane). I agree with the Airgap not being the best if you are going to drive this vehicle in the cold months of the year where the temps are below 45 degrees. Not only does it not have a heat cross over as stated, it also has as the name implies a gap between the runners and bottom pan. This causes a much cooler intake charge that will hurt fuel mileage as well as take much more time before it warms up and runs good. The R4B would be a good choice. This will give you good power throughout the range for a stock 401. Another good choice and better in my mind would be a Rebel Machine intake if you can find one. Clean up the #5 runner a little so it gets equal flow to that cylinder and you will have an intake that pulls hard all the way to 6000 rpm, works well in cold weather and gets decent mileage. A lot of this depends on how you will use the vehicle as with most power upgrades. They all have their place but there isn't one that will do all. Nick, Alfano Performance 4849-76 st.
