well, got the head out on the sidewalk and put the pressure washer to it... VERY suprisingly, it dont look bad at all. even the chanbers cleaned up real good. minor chunking left in there. no big pits, or serious damage to be found yet. only thing i cant see very well are the valve seats and stems. with a hammer, lightly tapping on the valve stem heads, all but 3 move freely. so i left those 3 stuck open, and soaked them in pb blaster. i just found in one of my cupboards in the shop i have an entire gasket set for the 196. will pop the valve springs off, and replace with the valve seals i got. just the little hat type. dont know how well they work, but better than whats NOT there anymore im sure. cant even see the lifters. so much of that junk from the head slid down the pushrod valley and covered the lifters. yes there is oil in the bottom end. i think the bottom is ok, just the cylinders and rockers were rusted pretty bad. im wondering what its going to hurt, when i drain the oil, pull the thing out in the diveway so i can use my BIG buckets. (up on ramps) and run water down the lifter valley and all. rinse all that junk out of the bottom of it?? hey, whats it going to hurt?? it already has all that rust in there, so i dont think im going to be making it any worse?? dave stohler http://picasaweb.google.com/das24rules _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
