For those of you wondering "why the heck did I get this?" I'm cc'ing those who might be interested as well as the lists I'm on. Thanks to the fuel price increase, my plans have changed considerably (at least until I get an LPG rig finished) I just picked up a '94 YJ tank tonight to use as a template to do my EFI conversion on both my '82 Spirit and new to me '79 DJ (ex-postal Jeep, then converted to Ice Cream truck for awhile, and now about to become 4x4 and daily driver ) Just for fun, I have been thinking about re-motoring my DJ. Since it already has the Audi 2.0L (same one used in Gremlins of the same vintage) I also found out that the motor was used in Porsche 924 and I found a pair of turbo rigs for $500 for the pair. That got me thinking a turbo 4 cyl with O/D auto would be good for fuel economy as a daily driver. (probably better than the almost 20 mpg my '87 4.0L Comanche was getting) I have already posted my '86 Longbox for sale, and I've been thinking about posting the '87 shortbox for $2,000 (it's almost finished the auto/4x4 conversion. Just need to do the dash to column shift and hook up the cooling lines and a couple more wires) I figure I can keep whichever I don't sell for hauling small stuff. I'll have a '76 J10 finished soon for hauling my 5th wheel around (not that it's going far very soon) with a 304/727/NP208D (from a Dodge Ramcharger for RH drop) and J20 axles with low, low gears. (I'll have to add an O/D later for freeway cruising) I have my '84 J10 to still build for fun and power. That will leave me several vehicles and numerous parts to sell. I have my '73 J4000 almost ready to get rid of (rolled it last year and have been slowly picking it apart to build the '76. Rest goes for scrap next monday) I have an '83 J10 longbox with 4.2L, AW4 (I converted it before breaking my rib in the rollover in the J4000) NP208 and I have a D60 rear (from the J4000, but originally from a '76 J20 I downgraded to a J10) and matching front brakes from a J20 axle. (my '84 J10 and '76 j10 shortbox have J20 axles too. Do you sense a trend? ) I have a '68 IH Travelall that I traded Brian (BMax) the '82 Spirit for (which was his before but he couldn't get it running right due to massive rust in the tank and DSPO syndrome and typical AMC idiosyncrasies that took me several months to fix as they broke. All except the front seats that is! Hopefully by the time he gets back from AK, I will have the 2wd AW4 and EFI put in the Spirit) I think he paid @$1500 for it (right before gas prices jumped up) and it does consume a fair bit of gas. At least it now gets double digit fuel economy (I figured @14 mpg towing my little trailer in warm weather) but it needs some work to make it better. Thermostat would be first (and retorque the head as the tech manual for the BG241 6 cyl says should be done every 40,000 miles) It has a T86? 4 speed (granny low) with divorced NP202 tcase. The axles are D44 front and rear with 4.10 ratio (it has a positrac tag on the rear. I just changed the diff oils in it and put the correct stuff in, which made it handle better) The steering is sloppy (due to bad tierods and pulling brakes) I have lots of pics of it and it could be a really nice rig if someone with ability took the time to fix it up. I have a Farm truck '69 IH Loadstar 1800 18' dumping flatbed with 392, 5 speed, Eaton or Rockwell 2 speed rear axle (may be 3 speed. Tag inside the cab offers both setups for this rig) I've driven it around my place (the power steering is nice!) but the brake pedal is zero (haven't checked fluid level yet) I plan to use it as an anchor to haul down some uber sized trees so they don't hit my cabin when I cut them. Then it will be up for $1,000 obo. The '81 Chev C20 with 454/TH400 will be up for $800 as soon as I pull the 5th wheel setup out for my '76 shortbox (which is getting the J4000's springs and the overloads from the '76 J20 that axle came from originally) I'll have the Model 20 from the '83 J10 for sale (less than 100,000 miles) for $150. I think it's 3.31 geared (4.2L T5 NP208 originally) I've yakked enough for now. Will post a parts list soon. Wanted: CJ7 widetrack axles with @ 3.54 or lower gears to put in my DJ. _________________________________________________________________ It’s a talkathon – but it’s not just talk. http://www.imtalkathon.com/?source=EML_WLH_Talkathon_JustTalk _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
