The practical part of me wants to simply get the cheapest thing to get 
the job done -- the rest of me wants the handheld datalogger with the 
tail pipe adapter you pointed out!

Since I don't have the cash for this now I'll continue to RTFM. Then 
there's always eBay...

Going to the junkyard this weekend to shop for throttle bodies.
