OK now this was a scary spot to be in an antique car with measured-out LP in the tank and not a parts store or any store for 100 miles: http://wps.com/AMC/1963-Rambler-Classic-550-Cross-Country/place-pictures/images/East-of-Spencer-Hot-Springs.jpg The black mark in the upper right is a UFO. Or maybe a black helicopter. Or maybe dirt. <longitude>-116.8418911897503</longitude> <latitude>39.31984487872055</latitude> About 40 miles east and south of Austin Nevada is Spencer Hot Springs, a crack in the earth with hot water coming out (and not much else). http://www.panoramio.com/photo/3123797 (not my photos here) I drove east on some road to go over the mountain range and into the next-east valley. Monitor Valley? I forget. It was damned desolate, and a bit scary. I was looking for "Diana's Punchbowl", an alleged hot springs. I never found it. That was the days before the interweb series of tubes. Now, on googleearth, there's a picture of it! http://www.panoramio.com/photo/3123797 If you use googleearth (not google maps) you can paste this crap below in or save it as a "kml" file. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <kml xmlns="http://earth.google.com/kml/2.2"> <Placemark> <name>Spencer Hot Springs</name> <open>1</open> <address>Spencer Hot Springs</address> <LookAt> <longitude>-116.8418911897503</longitude> <latitude>39.31984487872055</latitude> <altitude>0</altitude> <range>15475.35474490295</range> <tilt>0</tilt> <heading>0.01138638138392784</heading> </LookAt> <styleUrl>http://maps.google.com:80/maps?q=spencer%20hot%20springs%20nevada&sll=37.0718,-86.827&sspn=121.129,360&output=kml&ie=utf-8&v=2.2&cv=4.3.7204.0836&hl=en#default+nicon=http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/pal3/icon60.png+hicon=http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/pal3/icon52.png</styleUrl> <Point> <coordinates>-116.859805,39.326873,0</coordinates> </Point> </Placemark> </kml> _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
