My alternator won't start (light is on) until I rev it, just once, > past 2000 rpm. Then it works great. One of these days I'll put it back... </snip> Not sure if this will help or not but when a volt meter is used, power is routed through a 10 ohm resistance wire. One of the test procedures mentions using a 10 ohm resistor rated at 6 watts so that's 500mA (I think).
