99% sure it has an expansion valve. No reason to replace a good condensor, flush it out if you can, but if not, should not be a problem. If I was replacing one i'd look for a more modern design as there are some out there that cllaim to be more efficient for use with the newer refridgerants, I've no clue as to if they are true or not though or if they help. Your plans sound good, I hope you got a different compressor from the York, but it'll work if you stayed with one. It's just not very energy efficient and adds kind of a paint shaker effect when running, so don't be surprised by a little noise and vibration. Used to be a factory system was told by if it was all bolt together hoses and fittings. Dealer install had hose clamps, but I have no idea as to when that rule changed or if it even did. Often times you could find a shiney silver sticker announcing American Air or some such thing for dealer installs too. Look under the dash for a sticker on the evap box or on the dryer. Make sure you get a good long cycle on the vacuum to boil out any moisture before charging. -- Mark Price Morgantown, WV 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.7L, Quadratrc II " Chronic Pain Hurts" -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: Jesse <j2sax@xxxxxxxxx> > I have a 79 AMX 258 4 spd with Factory Air (York Compressor). > > I am replacing the Comnpressor this weekend before the Power Tour and had a > couple of questions. > > I am, also replacing the dryer, but not the condensor as I am having trouble > finding one, the old one does not leak and the car has less the 45K miled on it, > opinions?
