Unfortunately, the T-5 has an "internal" shifter. If it had three arms on the outside like a T-10 or one of the other older four speeds keeping the column shifter would be doable with a little caveat -- you'd need a shifter for fifth and reverse. I knew a guy who used the column shift with a four speed. The column shifted four forward gears, a cable under the dash (like an OD cable) was used for reverse. To back up he just put the column in neutral and pulled the cable. First was where reverse normally was on the column, second was first, etc. If someone unfamiliar with the car jumped in to back it up they'd have been in for quite a surprise! ----------- Date: Wed, 7 May 2008 09:51:36 -0400 From: "Bruce Griffis" <bruce.griffis@xxxxxxxxx> That sounds pretty cool! Now if there was a way to fab up a 5 on the tree, I'd be smilin' and stylin'! -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
