Even near junk used RHD Cherokees and such sell for good money, as rural carriers will fix 'em up and drive them for a while longer. Decent ones are quite pricey. That what has kept the prices of decent old mail Jeeps up higher than they really should be. I've considered converting the 65 American I have to RHD and taking a part time carrier job. I think I could fab a wrap around bracket to mount the gearbox on the right, brakes and heater would be a bit harder. Guess I'd just have to scrap the factory heater, smooth the firewall over there, and mount an aftermarket heater/defrost (and air?) system under the dash. Would have to use an auto trans instead of the 2.3L turbo five speed setup I have though. Would be a great app for a turbo 196 L-head though... has the L-head and a three speed in it. I've driven a RHD five speed many years ago when I was stationed in Okinawa. It's a bit weird shifting left handed, but you get the hang of it! Four and five speed COLUMN shifters are a bit weird too, but you can get used to anything with a bit of practice. ------------------- Date: Fri, 11 Apr 2008 20:35:17 +0000 From: Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx Laugh if you want, but it crossed my mind! A small XJ Cherokee would do. I've got a couple of contacts in right hand drive land. Get one of the ones here in the states sold to mail carriers and convert it to 5 speed. The American would be trickier. -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> > >> > > I returned to work on Tuesday and even light duty with a 10lb weight > restriction is a lttle much right now.
