84 and newer fours for the "small" bolt pattern -- 83 and earlier used the SBC pattern. At least in the ones they sold AMC and in GM cars. Might be different for GM trucks, but I doubt it. That's about the same time GM stopped using their I-6 and switched to small V-6s in their smaller trucks. Except for the 3.8L and 4.3L the V-6 and I-4 used the same pattern. I didn't think to mention the Caddy V-8! That pattern was used because it was designed to be used in FWD applications. I guess they beefed up the V-6 trans for the Caddy 4.1/4.5L V-8. Would save a good bit of time and money even if all they could use was the case. ================== Date: Thu, 3 Apr 2008 20:56:35 -0700 From: Jim Blair <carnuck@xxxxxxxxxxx> Note the GM 4 cyl has to be '8? and newer also (they used Chev SBC pattern before that) Caddy FWD motors from @'84 went with the same bell pattern. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
