IIRC, the unit my trans guy ordered ($300 was "my" price) fit XJ's, but was a Toyota spec'd 2wd unit that was rated for a little more power. This was a new trans, not a reman. He recommended them to all the stroker guys on our home board and a number of them bought. For the 96-down, I think all that was required was to swap the 4wd tail onto the A340. For the 97-up, all the A340 guts have to be swapped into the 97-up housing due to wiring and sensor differences. This guy had a complete case washer setup and everything, so you essentially were getting a "reman'd" unit with parts from a new unit if you had a 97-up. It wasn't as good a savings as with the 96-down, but you still came out ahead and with a stronger trans. I put a call in to him to get his source. He relocated out-of-state, so there's no concern about people circumventing him anymore. His "Joe XJ owner" price was $400 for the A340. -Spro -------------- Original message -------------- From: Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx > Now, to me that's more interesting than "go spend $3k on a mail order trans". > What needs to be done to use it? > > -- > Mark Price > Morgantown, WV > 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 > 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.7L, Quadratrc II > " Chronic Pain Hurts" > > -------------- Original message ---------------------- > From: msproviero@xxxxxxxxxxx > > Last time I needed a 96-down AW4, I bougth a *new* Toyota-spec'd A340 for > $300. > > > > > > -Spro > _______________________________________________ > Amc-list mailing list > Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx > http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
