The AMX 40th Reunion held this past weekend at Daytona International
Speedway had over 100 AMC cars, and some real cool ones:
Herman Lewis and his world record setting AMX
Fred Brewer's pro-stock AMX, now owned by Ray Philibert
The 1981 AMX Spirit PPG Pace Car (also owned by Ray Philibert)
The AMX 400, custom built by George Barris, now owned by Mike Geary of NY
Ray Pinto's all-original 1968 AMX (he's the original owner)
Bobbie Slocum (wife of Gene Slocum, the "Ramblin Man" drag racer) drove her
original 1968 AMX 390 4-speed
(she's the original owner and she's 85 - and drill drives it!!)
Stan Watkins prototype clone (similar to the 1971 2-seater AMX, with a 1974
tail panel)
Ed Quinn's prototype clone (a copy of the 1971 2-seater AMX, but painted
white)
Jock Jocewicz and his daily driver Matador (you gotta love that!)
A pair of AMO American Cup candidates A-scheme SC/Ramblers - Bob Hodson and
Manuel Cheek
A stunning trio of AMC's from Gary Kelley of Deltona Florida - '67 Marlin,
Rebel Machine, and an AMX
Doug Noland's awesome pro-street 1970 AMX
A group from Ohio DROVE their AMX's to the show, and another group from
Potomoc Ramblers and Carolina AMO also made the trip. One AMX owner flew in
from California just for the show. Dozens of folks from Florida and Georgia.
The oldest was a '58 Met, followed by a 1960 Custom Wagon. Newest was a pair
of 1981 Spirits, both drag cars. The youngest car owner was 17, and he
brought a near perfect 1968 Rogue with a 360.
We sure packed the showfield, and all had a great time. Start planning now
for the 50th - you know where the party will be!
