[Amc-list] Totalled my Taurus on Friday, Possible engine knock in Rambler on Sunday

Hello all, 
   
  Bad weekend, Friday, driver turned left 15 feet in front of me doing about 45, and so was I...Totalled my Taurus and his Jetta, He had a 14 year expired Jamacian drivers liscense but did have insurance...He got 6 tickets and went to jail...
   
  Now for the real headache...I was adjusting the timing and carb on my 65 American and heard what sounded like a knock from the number 1 cylinder...
   
  Here is the question, do the older fuel pumps on these cars make a noise ?  I was thining that it was the armatuer inside ??? 
   
  Any Clues ?
